We're here at Riverview Lodge, South Island. Just finished our fourth day. Fishing has been good and rivers are all at great levels. Lots of fish being caught on big beetles, parachute Adams, and various nymphs. Biggest so far is an 8 pound brown caught by David Theimann, not to mention his 6 and 7-1/2 pound fish caught the same day. This is the place for a big fish.

We just got back from a great trip to the Delphi Club, Abaco Island, Bahamas. A brand new, beautiful lodge designed with both the angler and non-angler in mind. It's always a gamble going to the Bahamas in January. We got lucky with a lot of sun and bonefish, but without too much wind and clouds. We all played with it over Christmas and was amazed at the photos we got. We loved for 4 frames per second continuous shooting. We also have two little grandsons (2 and 3) and it's so nice to capture the moment at the moment, not 5 seconds too late.

Ponoi River, Russia

We've just put the finishing touches on a late minute addition to our travel plans for this summer. Ryabaga Camp has a well-served reputation for phenomenal premier Atlantic salmon fishing. Remarkable numbers of fish, fly fishing only, catch and release, from first-timers to most experienced, this is an incredible trip. This is our second time to the Ponoi and we can't wait go get back to this incredible river and the beautiful salmon that live there.

Our week at Agua Boa Amazon Lodge in Brazil was a great hit. Water was higher than usual and we had to work a little harder but everyone caught double digit peacocks and had a great time as shown here by Tom Harris and Will Andersen.



It's an amazing experience to be in the rainforest and to fish the river, a distant tributary to the Amazon. There are all kinds of fish species, birds, animals and exciting new things to see around each corner. This is truly a destination that always has something new to offer along with hard fighting, hungry, beautiful fish. We can't wait to go back.

If you think this looks good now, and it does, think how good it's going to look in January when we're hoping for a day when it gets out of the 20's in the northeast!

 

You're right, there's no way of knowing what our weather will be like in January, and we're taking a chance going to the Bahamas at this time of year, but we can be pretty certain that whatever it is in the Bahamas, it will be better than what it is at home!

We were very honored to be inducted into the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum's Fly Fishing Hall of Fame on October 8, CCFFCM,  in Roscoe, NY, Trout Town USA. The 2011 inductees included Doug Swisher, Carl Richards (1933-2006), John Alden Knight (1890-1966), and Roderick Haig-Brown (1908-1976). It was a beautiful fall day in the Catskills. I'm sure more than one of us was thinking that it was the perfect fall day for fishing the Beaverkill.

Just a couple quick things before heading out to Alaska:

On October 8, we are being inducted into the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum, CCFC&M in Roscoe, NY. We're astounded at this prestigious honor and look forward to being in Trout Town, USA, for the events and ceremony. Hope to see you there.

I've posted several photos on Facebook of the flood that hit Benton and Fishing Creek last week. It's very very sad. Lots of people, including most of Benton, are still without water and were without power for days. Downstream of us, cabins were washed away at Forks and Bloomsburg was hit especially hard. The One is the new kid on the block from Sage Rod Company for 2012. This is an interesting 3 minute video taking us inside the Sage factory to hear Kurt Van Wyck, Director of Research & Development, Steve Greist, Material Engineer and Jerry Siem, Chief Rod Designer, tell us all about the new technology and the new One. We recently had the opportunity to take a seven weight to Alaska, fished it everyday for a week, and are simply amazed at how spot-on accurate and true tracking this new rod is. The One is 25 percent lighter than it's predecessor, the Z-Axis, and has a much more sensitive feel. You can actually feel the line working on the rod, and that is one of the main aspects of the new technology at Sage. What we like most is that the new One is lighter, more responsive, more accurate, more sensitive than any fly rod up to this point. A pleasure to cast and fish.
